Bus driven by helper hits home minister’s car

    Sayeed Muhammad: A sports utility vehicle carrying Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was hit by a city bus that was being driven by a helper at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
    A bus of New Vision Paribahan hit the car in front of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in the area around 8.45pm on Friday, said Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Inspector (investigation) Abul Kalam Azad, reports the Dhaka Tribune.
    “The minister went to the hospital to visit a patient. When he was on his way to Nakhalpara after coming out of the hospital when the bus with the number plate Dhaka Metro Ba 11-7475 hit his SUV,” said the inspector Azad.
    The helper has been identified as Manik who is aged about 22 years. The driver of the bus, Ibrahim Khalil Imon, 22, was with Manik inside the bus, but he was tired, according to Manik’s initial statement.
    Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police has detained the duo and kept the bus is in its custody.
    “Although the SUV suffered a little damage, the minister however was safe and travelled to his destination with the damaged car,” said police officer.
    The Traffic Week, an annual program by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to raise awareness and bring discipline in road transport, is underway and has been extended by three days.
