Rajshahi farmers busy in Aman cultivating

    Desk Report: Farmers of Rajshahi region are now busy with Aman cultivation and expecting good yield in the favourable weather, reports Observer BD.

    Farmers and the agriculturists said the Aman seedlings are now being planted. The farmers were worried due to the drought, but now they are happy for the rain.

    Farmers are happy with good prices of rice. As a result, the workers’ wage increased. In this situation, the farmers are expecting to exceed the target of Aman.

    Zaman, the Aman farmer of Karnahar area of Paba upazila, said now he will cultivate Aman on 35 bighas of land. He already completed planting seedlings in about 20 bighas. Due to adequate rain, irrigation is required to plant seedlings.

    However, there is water logging in Karnahar bills on a few bighas of land. Farmers cannot plant Aman seedlings for about 2 feet-high water in the lands.

    Farmer Manzur said the cultivation of Aman saplings was completed in about 70 percent of the land already.

    The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) of Rajshahi said the target of Aman cultivation in Rajshahi has been taken 71,337 hectares. Until yesterday, saplings were planted in 57,622 ha. Though the target was 70,224 ha in last year, the cultivation was 73,887 ha. The hope is that they will exceed the target this year.
