Block raid in Bashundhara

    Desk Report: Law enfor- cers started block raid against drug peddlers in Bashundhara Residential area and its adjacent areas of Dhaka yesterday.
    Several teams of law enforcers started the raid around 8:30pm to arrest drug peddlers and criminals, Qamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station, told The Daily Star.
    Several hundreds of police and Detectives Branch (DB) of police took part in the operation, said the OC, adding that they were searching in different houses and messes in the areas.
    On Monday, a clash took place between police and students of North South University (NSU), East West University (EWU) and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in Bashundhara Residential area as the students gathered there to protest the Jhigatola attacks on demonstrators by alleged ruling party men on Saturday and Sunday.

    Some 40 injured people, mostly students, were rushed to Apollo Hospital, according to a doctor at its emergency department. Some passersby, policemen and street children were also hurt during the clash.
