Dipan murder trial needed for rule of law: Father

    UNB, Dhaka
Prof Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq, father of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, has said it is the responsibility of the government to hold the trial of the killers of his son in the interest of establishing the rule of law in the country.
“So far as I know there has been no progress in the probe into the killing case,” Fazlul Huq, Super Namarari Professor of Dhaka University’s Bangla Department, bemoaned while talking to UNB on Saturday. Though four months have passed by since the killing of publisher Dipan, the investigators still grope in the dark over the incident. The detectives claim there has been substantial progress in the investigation, but they could not yet arrest any perpetrator in connection with the gruesome murder.
Faisal Arefin Dipan, owner of Jagriti Publications and son of Prof Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq of Dhaka University, was hacked to death in his office on the second floor of Aziz Supermarket at Shahbagh in the city on October 31 last year.
The heinous incident took place hours after attack on another publisher and blogger, Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, at Lalmatia. Two others were also injured when miscreants stormed into the Tutul’s Lalmatiya office. Dipan was the publisher of a book titled ‘Biswaser Virus’ (Virus of Faith) written by blogger and founder of Mukto-Mona blog Avijit Roy, who was also hacked to death around eight months ago on February 26, 2015 near TSC on the Dhaka University Campus during Ekushey Book Fair.
