Political infiltrators attacked AL office, leaders: Obaidul

Sayeed Muhammad: Aw-ami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said a group of political infiltrators posing themselves as student protesters attacked the Awami League president’s political office at Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
“A total 17 leaders and activists of Awami League and its associated wings were injured in the attack. They have already been admitted to the nearby Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital,” he was quoted by the Dhaka Tribune as saying.
Obaidul, also the Road Transport and Bridges minister, made the statement at a press briefing at the Awami League president’s political office yesterday.
Earlier in the morning, he said: “We have already accepted all the demands of the students. Implementation of some of the demands is underway.”
“Now we are requesting the students return to their homes, because of the chance of political infiltration. A political group is trying to misuse the demonstration for their own purposes,” he added.
Urging the students to return home so the transport system would return to normal, he said, “The Road transport Act will be placed at Monday’s cabinet meeting for final approval. The act suggests capital punishment for fatal road accidents.”
