Hossen Sohel: Ruling out any chance of his resignation,
categorically said the agitating students did not ask for his resignation in their nine-point demand.
“It is the opposition BNP that pushing for my resignation not the students. BNP has been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister and the ruling government for long now. So there is no chance of resignation,” the minister said, reports Banglanews24.com.
Shipping minister made the remarks to reporters at secretariat yesterday.
Shahjahan Khan said, “Students asked for my apology and I did apologize to them. I also requested them to take my mistakes with kind and forgiving heart.”Following the ongoing mass agitation of the students, transport owners took off buses from city streets.In response to a question regarding this issue, the minister said, “I did not asked owners to take off buses from streets neither did I asked them to run the buses. It is strictly up to them. However, I did ask labor leaders to run public transports in a safe manner as there are young students on the streets.”
Earlier on July 29, 2 students- Abdul Karim, 16 and Diya, 15- of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were killed as the speedy bus hit them on Airport Road of the capital city. The incident triggered mass protest among students and they have been continuing the demonstration in demand of safe roads.Following the incident, Shipping Minister made negative comments about the accident victims that fueled the mass agitation and students demanded clear-cut apology from the minister. Also many have asked the minister to step down from office over his insensitive comments and utter failure of observing duties.
