Asian Age: To the young generation of Bangladesh, Masud Rana is a widely popular spy character. From school students to the elders, Masud Rana is still popular. Penned by Qazi Anwar Hussain, Masud Rana is a fictional character modeled after James Bond.
However, the character expanded widely in Bangladesh. Written from the 1960s and continuing to present day, books are published almost every month by Sheba Prokashoni, one of the most popular publishing houses of Bangladesh.
Comparing to its popularity, Masud Rana has not been featured in small screen or big screen that much. The first and only film was done by Masud Parvez, popularly known as Sohel Rana. He brought Masud Rana character on screen in 1974 based on the book titled ‘Bishmaron’. After that nobody tried to portray the character on big screen. However, Atiqul Haque Chowdhury brought back the character in a television drama which was based on the book titled ‘Pishach Dwip’ and model Adil Hossain Nobel portrayed the lead character. Now Masud Rana fans can be filled with joy and happiness as the character is returning to the big screen after 44 years.
Production house Jaaz Multimedia is going to make three films based on three popular novels — Dhwangsha Pahar, Bharatnatyam and Swarna Mrigya — of the Masud Rana series.
