British PM’s trade envoy Rushanara due today

M Humayun Kabir: Rushanara Ali, MP, British Prime Minister’s trade envoy to Bangladesh, will arrive here tonight to discuss on further acceleration of trade and investment between the two friendly countries.
A Foreign Ministry official told UNB that her visit will start officially on Sunday. In September last, Rushanara, accompanied by a trade delegation of 9 UK rail companies, visited Bangladesh, showcasing UK expertise in the rail sector. The cross-party Trade Envoy programme was established in 2012 with a view to building bilateral trade relationships and helping drive economic growth in countries identified as key markets for the UK.
Officials said the two-way trade between Bangladesh and the UK stands at £2.3m. Over 100 British companies run business in various sectors like retail, banking, energy, infrastructure, consultancy and education with main centres of operation in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.
The UK is also the third single largest destination for exports from Bangladesh.
