Afrida Ahmed: The Supreme Court decided to pass an order today on a leave-to-appeal filed against a High-court order that gave bail to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed under the Special Powers Act regarding the pyromania attack in Cumilla on Feb 3, 2015, reports UNB.
After completing hearing of the leave-to-appeal petition, the hearing was fixed by a four-member bench of the Appellate Division which was supervised by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain. Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, AJ Mohammad Ali and Joynul Abedin fought for Khaleda while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state. The High Court granted bail on May 28, for six months to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in two cases filed in Cumilla. The government then filed a petition with the Appellate Division requesting a stay on the bail order.
