Xasir Youssaf: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made urges to the international community yesterday for continuous pressure on Myanmar to take back the Rohingya minorities from the country.
The PM during a courtesy call by International Rescue Committee (IRC) President and CEO David Miliband said, “The global community will have to continue their pressure on the Myanmar government to take back the forcibly displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh.”
The details about the meeting was known as PM’s Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the newsmen about it. Sheikh Hasina informed Miliband about the sufferings of the local people of Cox’s Bazar and the environment is being affected due to the influx of a huge number of Rohingya people there.
The premier said arrangements are being made to shift the Rohingyas to a safe place. “We are providing healthcare services to the Rohingya people and also developing an island named Bhashan Char to shift them there,” she said.
In reply, the IRC president informed the premier that he would visit Bangladesh with a team to see and measure the condition of the minority group.
