PM orders strict compliance of environmental standards in EPZs

    Xasir Youssaf: Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) was asked by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to strictly ensure monitor and ensure environmental standards and obligations in the specialized economic zones producing export bound products.
    “The prime minister issued particular directives as she addressed the BEPZA’s sixth Governing Council meeting at her office,” said the PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim yesterday. Sheikh Hasina, being herself the Governing Council chairperson of BEZA, particularly directed the regulatory authority to keep provision of adequate water bodies and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) in every industrial zone.
    He also added that the premier simultaneously asked for creating artificial mangrove forest around the industrial zones particularly along the southern coastlines to protect the region from cyclones, storm surges and other natural disasters.
