US in ‘productive talks’ about reinstating summit with North Korea: Trump

Sabah Mannan: Just a day after Trump cancelled the 12th June summit with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un due to Pyongyang’s “open hostility”, he said the US was having “productive talks” about reinstating it.
In a Twitter post, Trump wrote that the summit is likely to be held on the same date, June 12th and if necessary, it will be extended beyond the specified date.
South Korea’s presidential spokesperson responded saying they are optimistic for North Korea dialogue and are watching the developments carefully. Despite months of war threats and insults between the leaders, Kim and Trump both agreed to hold the meeting. Trump’s cancellation of the summit on Thursday brought in criticism by President Moon Jae-in of South Korea, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and many more but the decision of reviving the meeting has raised hopes for everyone.
