Sayeed Muhammad: The apex court has deferred until tomorrow the hearing on the leave-to-appeal petitions filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail which the High Court granted her in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, passed on the order yesterday, reports the Dhaka Tribune.The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on March 19 stayed Khaleda’s bail till yesterday, in the graft case in which she was convicted by the lower court and sent to jail.It also allowed the State and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to file petitions against the HC order granting Khaleda’s bail.On February 8, the Dhaka Special Court 5 sentenced the former prime minister to five years’ imprisonment in the graft case and then sent her to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka.She secured a four-month bail from the High Court in the case on March 12.On March 15, the ACC and the State filed two leave-to-appeal petitions before the Appellate Division challenging the bail.On Saturday, Khaleda Zia asked her lawyers to bring the matter of her “serious illness” to the notice of the Supreme Court during her bail hearing.
