Sayeed Muhammad: Despite the BNP demanding deployment of the army, the Election Commission said it will not do so in the forthcoming city corporation elections in Gazipur and Khulna. Police and the Rapid Action Battalion backed by border guards are enough to maintain the law and order in the election areas, said EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed yesterday.His comment came following a meeting with law-enforcement agencies.“The past local elections have become successful with the help of law-enforcement agencies. The upcoming election will also be successful,” the EC official Ahmed said.An EC team led by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda held a two-hour-long meeting with top officials of law-enforcement and other government agencies ahead the two city polls scheduled for May 15.
