Several organizations of Chittagong Hill Districts yesterday protested at Dhaka University demanding justice over the “rape” of an indigenous girl in Khagrachhari. Students under Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) along with Hill Women’s Federation staged the protests demanding the arrest of the “rapist”. The two organizations paraded throughout Dhaka University protesting. A teenager of the Tripura community was raped in Matiranga Upazila, Khagrachhari during the worldwide observation of International Women’s Day, they allege. Tribal leader Rakhi Mrong of Bangladesh Adivasi Nari Network demanded the highest penalty for the culprit. Nipun Tripura, general secretary of PCP, said, “Women are not safe anywhere. Government laws in place cannot keep these incidents form happening. There is a culture of impunity existing.”
