BNP stages demo for Khaleda’s release

    Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists were protesting in Dhaka yesterday demanding release of their Chairperson Khaleda Zia who was jailed in a corruption case. The protesters brought out a procession from the North entrance of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque that ended at the BNP central party office in Nayapaltan. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led the procession. Rafiq Shikder told Banglanews that the procession reached to the party office in spite of obstruction attempts from police. None was hurt. Motijheel Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shibli Noman told media that they have cooperated with the peaceful program of BNP. They claim that BNP protesters didn’t create any disorder. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was sent to jail on Thursday after a special tribunal sentenced her to 5-year in prison in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
