Eastern University organized and celebrated an open student event for Women’s Day. The Complaint Committee for Sexual Harassment worked hand in hand with all the department to put the event forward. The #PledgeforParity theme, was followed through and through, with speeches and personals opinions given on various topics, such as He for She, Challenge the Bias against Women, End Violence Against Women etc. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Sureya Huda, Chairperson, Department Of English. Special guests for the event included the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr.Abdul Hannan Chowdhury who spoke about the history of International Women’s Day and how we have to work harder for an ideal future. He was followed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab who appreciated the initiative taken to celebrate this auspicious day and expressed wishes to do the same every year. Professor Kashinath Roy, Dean of the Department of English, expressed his wishes and said that women need to be recognized as a force to be reckoned with. Following this, 15 students, both male and female, voiced their opinions and gave short speeches.
Special thanks was given to all involved who made the event a success. Prizes were distributed amongst the five best speakers. The event was brought to a close amidst great applause, fanfare and hope for the future.
