Sultana Kamal speaks to DOT :
Discriminatory and abusive content against women is made in the Home Economics textbook of class six and nine-ten of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board for the academic session 2019. It says about how fair and dark complexioned girls should be dressed up, what slim and fat girls should do to cover up their weaknesses and lastly it says that fair complexioned girls look very pretty in all types of dress.
In this regard, Advocate Sultana Kamal spoke to DOT and said that this kind of content in textbook contradicts with the Constitution of Bangladesh, women empowerment policies and commitments of our government. This is extremely humiliating towards women and reflects the attitude and mindset of a patriarchal culture. No one has the authority to dictate what a woman should wear or should do in this way. Those who were involved in writing this textbook should immediately change it.
