Pupils hurt in clash with cops over teacher’s assault

    Desk Report: At least nine students of a college were injured as they engaged in a clash with policemen to protest assault of one of their teachers in Mymensingh yesterday reports Banglanews24.
    Five police members also sustained injuries. Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam College Computer  Science teacher Delwar Hossain said an auto-rickshaw hit the college’s English teacher Sheikh Shariful Alam at the Zilla school intersection in the morning. Shariful engaged in a scuffle with the driver.
    A traffic police came to scene and got involved in a scuffle with Shariful. At one stage, Shariful was beaten up by the police and taken to police station.
    On information, a team of the college authority came to the police station and released him.
    As the news spread, the students went to the police station to protest the incident.
    At one stage, a clash erupted between the students and police.
    At least nine students were injured as police opened tear shells and rubber bullets.
    Superintendent of Police (SP) Shah Abid Hossain said a rumor spread following the incident and therefore the teacher was taken to the police station.
    More than a hundred students came to the police station and carried out vandalism. Police opened rubber bullets and tear shells, in retaliation, he added.
    A committee will be formed to investigate the incident, added the SP.
    Moreover, higher officials have called a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office chaired by DC Dr Suvash Chandra Biswas.
