DNCC mayoral by-polls Feb 28

The Election Commission has announced the schedule for the Dhaka North City Corporation by-polls, reported The Daily Star.
After a meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban yesterday evening, Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed announced that the election schedule will commence from February 28.
Elections to the councilor posts in the 36 new wards – 18 under Dhaka North City Corporation and 18 under Dhaka South City Corporation – will be held on the same day.
As per the schedule, January 30 has been fixed as the last date for submission of nomination paper, while nomination scrutiny will be on February 2 and last date for nomination withdrawal on February 9.
On December 4, 2017, the Local Government Division issued a gazette, saying that the DNCC’s mayoral post has been vacant since December 1 on the same year, following the death of Mayor Annisul Huq.
On January 16, the High Court cleared the way for holding elections to the city corporation mayoral post and polls in the 36 new wards under the two Dhaka city corporations.
The court had lifted its earlier order that stayed the process for holding the DNCC and DSCC elections.
