CPB concerned over price hike of essentials

DOT Desk: Communist Party of Bangladesh expressed deep concerns over the price hike of essential commodities, including rice, reports The New Age.
CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim and general secretary Mohammad Shah Alam, in a joint statement, said that rice prices had suddenly increased by Tk 4 to 5 per kilogram without any valid reason, according to a party press release issued on Saturday. Increase in rice prices was accompanied by rises in prices of essential commodities, including onion and garlic, and were hitting the common people hard, they said. In the statement, the left leaders said that the government was conducting antipeople activities to cling to power and was giving priority to the plundering wealthy class. Dishonest businesspersons were controlling the market and were forming a cartel with the help of the government, they said.
They alleged that the syndicate was taking advantage of the government’s weakness and increasing prices of essential commodities without showing any valid reason.
They demanded that action should be taken against hoarding and profiteering to bring back control over the market and reduce prices of essential commodities for the welfare of the masses.
The party is going to hold demonstrations across the country to protest against the price hike of essential commodities, the release said.
A protest rally will be organised centrally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka at today 4:00pm.
