Poles all over the country gathered in the port city of Gdansk yesterday for the funeral of murdered mayor Pawel Adamowicz, whose public stabbing has raised alarm about the hot issue of political hate speech in the Baltic country.Around 3,500 people, including Polish President Andrzej Duda and EU Council President Donald Tusk, a longtime friend of Adamowicz, attended the ceremony.
President Duda also announced a day of national mourning. Adamowicz, 53, was stabbed in the heart in front of hundreds of people at a charity fundraiser last weekend by an ex-convict wielding a knife.
