Awami League President Sheikh Hasina urged party activists to recount that the 11th national polls victory comes with sky high expectations that must be met if they want to win again.
“Winning is difficult. It is also hard work maintaining victory by working for the good of the people. That is our job now,” said Hasina, reports BDnews.
Hasina, also the prime minister, was addressing a rally her party organized to celebrate its landslide win in the December 30 election, at Suhrawardy Udyan yesterday.
She went on saying said the victory was a verdict from the people against drugs, militancy and corruption and a mandate to build a Bangladesh free of hunger and poverty.The prime minister called for the cooperation of all to implement the Awami League’s manifesto and establish a developed Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina arrived at venue of the event around 3 pm.Though the rally at Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan was scheduled for 2:30 pm, the location began filling with Awami League leaders and activists chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans from the morning. A victory stage festooned with banners had been prepared for the event. Awami League Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury and Advisory Council members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Mohammad Nasim, Lt Col Muhammad Faruq Khan, General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretarys Mahabub-ul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman and Dipu Moni.
Members of the Awami League’s policymaking committee and the new cabinet and other senior party and government leaders were also among the attendees.
