Massive hunt for criminals gets underway

DOT Desk: Against the backdrop of mugging and hijacks, members of law enforcement agencies including detectives and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have launched massive hunt for criminals at different parts of the capital and its outskirts, reports The Daily Sun.
As part of the move, members of RAB-2 on Saturday night have managed to nab at least four suspected muggers from the capital’s Tejgaon area.
The arrestees are Faruq Hossain, Shahrier Hossain, Manik and Anwar. In the face of RAB interrogation, the arrestees disclosed that they were the active members of an organized gang of muggers. They were involved in snatching cash, gold ornaments, mobile phone sets and other valuables from different pedestrians and passengers of different slow-moving vehicles in the capital.
RAB said as per their statements, it was known that that the organised gang of muggers brandishing firearms and lethal weapons lie in wait at different intersections, lane and by-lane of the capital only to swoop on people to rob them off. In some cases, the armed goons don’t hesitate to harm their targets.
In recent days, most of the thoroughfares, lane and by-lane in the capital and its outskirts including Tongi, Savar, Keraniganj and Siddirganj have become more vulnerable to mugging.

Law enforcers both in uniform and in plainclothes in large numbers are working under the jurisdiction of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), but are reportedly failing to curb such crimes.
Many innocent people are being more or less falling prey to muggers and losing their valuables almost every day.

But most of the victims do not go to police station considering it an extra hassle, sources said.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said a large number of law enforcers including plain-clothes are now working in the capital to catch the criminals including muggers.

Two days ago, a team of detective police conducted a drive and arrested six suspected robbers from the capital’s Mirpur area.

The striking team also recovered two machetes and one knife from their possession.

The detective police team caught them red handed when they were preparing for committing a robbery, added the DC.
