Dr. Emajuddin Ahmed speaks to DOT :
I believe that corruption takes place throughout the country twenty two hours out of twenty four hours a day. The way this government came to power was also through corruption. Then how will it be able to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against it? Is there a ministry in the country where corruption does not take place? People who go to work at the ministry know whether corruption takes place. However, it is possible to control it if honesty is present in the workplace. But I don’t know if this would be possible with the current administration.
It is quite alarming when we look at the 11th national parliamentary election. It is questionable whether the government can really adopt zero-tolerance policy. We all saw how the government came to power. After seeing that I don’t think it will be able to adopt a zero-tolerance policy.
Dr. Emajuddin Ahmed is the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka. Interview by Khairul Alam. Translated by Abrar Hussain.
