DOT Desk: Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday paid homage to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, founding president of Bangladesh, on the occasion of his Homecoming Day, reports New Age. She paid the tributes by placing wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city. The prime minister stood there in solemn silence for some time showing deep respect to Sheikh Mujib. Flanked by ministers and central leaders of Bangladesh Awami League, Sheikh Hasina, on behalf of her party, placed another wreath at the portrait of Sheikh Mujib as its president.
Later, leaders of Awami League’s associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Mohila Awami League, Swechchhasebak League, Krishak League and different socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the portrait of the great leader.
Sheikh Mujib returned to independent Bangladesh on January 10, 1972 after his release from solitary confinement for nine months and a half in a Pakistan prison during the country’s War of Independence.
