Govt trying to assist EC in ensuring compliance with electoral code

Dr. Abdur Razzaque speaks to DOT
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) alleged rampant violation of electoral code in the country ahead of the election. It conveyed grave concerns over Election Commission’s inaction over the violation, attacks, intimidation and harassment on opposition activists in a statement. TIB said EC might lose its trust if it moves to curb live cast from voting centres, mobile phone and restrict the media in carrying out its responsibilities. It called upon the EC to be active in upholding its constitutional duty and  carry it with the virtues of self-respect and righteousness.
In this regard, Dr. Abdur Razzaque, a Bangladeshi politician said that the government is trying to assist EC to the best of its capacity in ensuring compliance with electoral code in the 11th parliamentary election. He further said that his party Awami League has instructed to take necessary action if anyone from their party is found to have been involved in violating electoral code in country after proper investigation.
Dr. Razzaque is serving as a Member of Parliament for Tanagil-1 since 2001. He served as Minister of Food and Disaster Management from 2009 to 2012 and then, as Minister of Food until 2013. He has been the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Finance since 2014. He has also been serving as a Presidium (highest policy making body) Member of Bangladesh Awami League since 2016. Currently, he is also the head of the Election Manifesto sub-committee of Bangladesh Awami League for the upcoming election to be held in December, 2018.
