This year nears an end with yet another achievement as the Bangladesh team won one gold medal, two highly-commended medals and one technical medal in the 20th International Robot Olympiad (IRO).
The competition was held in the Philippines from December 15-19, in which Bangladesh participated for the first time, reports The Daily Star.
Kazi Mustadid Labib and Tasfir Tahrimfrom of Chittagong Grammar School (Dhaka) and M dMeher Mahmud from Maple Leaf International School lead the team ROBOTIGERS to victory, winning a gold medal from the Junior group under the creative category.
Md Khairul Islam from Lalbagh Government Model School and College and Sunny Jubaer from Dhaka College lead TEAM BANGLADESH to bag won the technical medal under the Senior group’s creative category.
Nashitat Jainah Rahman of Sunbeams School and Mahjabin Purbali of Aga Khan School, who lead the team ROBOCHALLENGERS, are the winners of the highly commended medal. ROBOTIGERS was also reigning this category winning the highly commended medal in the Junior Group’s Robot in Movie category.
IRO began with an aim at promoting scientific abilities of teenagers, developing the talent of students interested in the field of robotics and increasing the demands on private robots. Their goal is to provide the opportunity to communities to maintain amicable social relationships and to build leadership.
Under the theme, “Save the Seas,” the competition was hosted by the Muntinlupa City government at the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa. About 800 students from 15 different countries also took part in the contest.
