Govt extends car facility down to major-level officers

The government has conferred its car facility down to majors and equal ranked officers of the armed forces division 18 days before the December 30 national elections, reports The New Age.
The public administration ministry in an official order on December 11 included majors and lieutenant colonels alongside the privileged group getting the all time car facility from the government transport pool.
Earlier, officers only above the rank of lieutenant colonels were entitled to enjoy the facility.
Officials of the ministry of public administration said a demand from the armed forces division in this connection was pending for long.
Another demand by the armed forces division for allowing the interest-free car loan facility down to military officers ranked at the level of majors is being considered by the ministry of finance, they said.
The government has been providing Tk 30 lakh as interest free car loan in addition to monthly maintenance fee of Tk 50,000 down to deputy secretaries in the civil bureaucracy since last year.
