EC starts allocating electoral symbols to candidates

    Election Commission (EC) yesterday started
    allocating election symbols among the final candidates of all parties for allowing them to contest the 11th parliamentary election, reports BSS. “EC starts allocating polls symbols today while the candidates and their supporters can conduct campaign from tomorrow at their respective
    constituencies after allocation of symbols,” said EC Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmad Khan. As per rules and regulations of EC, the candidates will continue their campaign till midnight on December 28, ahead of 32 hours of voting day slated
    for December 30, he said, adding “the candidates this time can carry out
    their campaign for 19 days”.
    He said that the EC has already directed the executive magistrates and law
    enforcement officers to stay alert to prevent any untoward situation
    centering polls during the campaign.
    A total of 122 Electoral Inquiry Committee will remain in the field of
    voting where candidates and their supporters could complain on any issues
    regarding the violation of electoral offenses and code of conduct, he added.
    According to election office sources, the code of conduct of election was
    also announced with directing to be the size of posters by 60 x 45
    centimeters, prohibition on printing of colour posters and using living
    animals as symbol, fixing of time limit of using microphone from 2pm to 8 pm
    and avoiding religious places for publicity.
    Ban on processions with trucks and buses were also imposed as political
    parties can use the photographs of their party chiefs in the posters of the
    candidates.
    The persons availing government facilities will have to take part in the
    campaign by leaving all facilities including government buildings, cars and
    other protocols.
    However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can get the protocol facilities due
    to security reason as per the law.
