No gathering in Ijtema ground before voting: EC

    The Election Commission (EC) has directed not to hold any kind of functions of Tablighi Jamaat on Ijtema ground in Tongi before December 30 scheduled for voting.
    EC Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmed Khan on Friday sent a letter to Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner, deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, with the direction, reports a Bangla online newspaper.
    Expressing deep concern about law and order on Ijtema ground, a faction of Tablighi Jamaat sent a letter to the EC on November 24. They urged the authorities concerned to take necessary action without delay.

    In response to this, EC has directed police to keep close all types of Tablighi Jamaat programmes on the ground before December 30.

    A portion of Tablishi Jamaat set next January 11, 12 and 13 for the first phase of Ijtema but another faction of the same fixed January 18, 19 and 20. That is why, the first phase of the second gathering of Muslims after Hajj was suspended.
