Since the beginning all women of menstruation age (defined as being aged between 10-50) have been forbidden to enter Sabarimala temple in Kerala (considered one of the most holy Hindu temples in the world) because in Hinduism females aged 10–50 have been considered “unclean”.
Now, by the grace of God and much patience and tolerance, India’s Supreme Court has ruled against this custom, petitioned as having “violated gender equality”.
In the practice of my devotion i have always believed God made man and woman equal, and as a blessing, that women are built to bleed.
Therefore, on behalf of my daughters, i am grateful for the wisdom and urging of conscience
of the Chief Justice Dipak Misra in
his deliberations who said
“religion is for one dignity and identity and the right to practice religion is available to both men and women”.
