‘Bangladesh-India coordination must for combating cross-border human trafficking’

As women and children from Bangladesh are being trafficked to India continuously, Civil Society members called for coordination at both government and non-governmental levels of the two countries on urgent basis for combating the crime. “At the moment, about 200 to 400 women and children from Bangladesh are being trafficked to India each month. It is assumed that over one lakh women and children have already been trafficked to the neigbouring country”, they told a press conference. It is needed to avoid lengthy process under Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) between Bangladesh and India regarding repatriation of the victims, and increase coordination and cooperation between the border guards of the two countries, they said. They demanded establishing an effective central communication system between the organizations working for prevention of the trafficking in Bangladesh and India. –Press release
