Dr. Shamsul Alam, Fuel Expert:
Power generation is not being efficiently utilized. Power is being generated based on demand and not on production capability. Production capacity is scarcely being utilized. The amount is below 50%.
There is no consensus in correlating energy production with demand. In fact, fuel production without at first ensuring energy generation capacity is ultimately fruitless. This is being done solely for business, no energy production takes place. Business is conducted in this sector through tactics. Even if power generation capacity is increased, it is not being done in terms of energy demand. Thus, load shedding is inevitable.
If production is to be synchronized with demand, corruption in this sector has to be prevented, as well as controlling the level of energy generation and efficiently producing power. At the same time, competition has to be created. If these are ensured, energy will be produced based on demand. Merely increasing capacity will not help. Demand has to be met through production.
