PM to open power week today

    Kabir Humayun: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate a three-day National Power and Energy Week 2018 today at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital.
    PM’s Power and Energy Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Power and Energy Md Tajul Islam, Power Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus and Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem will speak at the inaugural ceremony of the power and energy week, reports Daily Sun.
    On the opening session, Nasrul Hamid will present a keynote at a seminar styled ‘Future Prospect of Regional Connectivity’ while on the second day, the ministry of power and energy will organise a seminar titled ‘Power and energy: funding the way to sustainable growth’.
    Siemens Head of Power and Gas Richard Reisig will present the keynote paper while the prime minister’s chief coordinator for SDG affairs has consented to be session chair.
    Another seminar styled ‘New Technologies: Innovations in Power and Energy’ will be organised by the ministry of power and energy on Friday.
    Chief Executive Officer of General Electric Company of South Asia Vishal Wanchoo and Prof Syed Islam of Curtin University, Australia will present keynote paper while Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has consented to be session chair.
    Country’s total power generation capacity is now over 20,000MW which was only 4,942MW in 2009.
    Country’s access to electricity is now 92 percent which was just 47 percent in 2009.
    A total of 51 organisations in public sector and over 70 private sector organisations will participate in the national power week.
    The power and energy sector entrepreneurs will display their products and services at the fair.
