Desk Report: Locals handed over a man to police after he raped an indigenous woman in Longadu of Rangamati on Saturday.
The man, Shawkat Osman, 20, was shown arrested on rape charges, after the victim’s father filed a case with Longadu Police Station on Sunday.
Ranjan Kumar Samonto, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the incident took place around noon on Saturday and locals caught the accused soon afterwards. Police sent the arrestee to jail custody on Sunday, he said, adding that the 22-year-old woman was admitted to Rangamati General Hospital. A week before, on July 28, indigenous girl Kritika Tripura Punati, a fifth-grader at Noimail Tripura Guchchhogram Government Primary School, was allegedly murdered after rape in Khagrachhari’s Dighinala.
A few days apart, on Thursday, another indigenous schoolgirl was allegedly assaulted sexually in Dighinala.
