Mango prices high at last moment in Rajshahi

    Observer BD: With mango depleting in the Rajshahi markets, hub of the summer fruit, Fazli is being sold at Tk 200 per kg in this last period of the season.
    However, only a few days ago, this mango was sold at Tk 30 to 40 per kg. Gopalbhog, Khirsapat, Langarah, Mohanovog, Amrapali and most of the mangoes are almost finished in the market, when Ashwina mango started coming to the market.
    Sources of the Department of Agricultural Extension of Rajshahi have informed that due to the good mango yield, people have eaten mangoes at cheaper rates. This did not happen within few years.
    Last year, Khirasapat, Gopalbhog, Langra Mango had been sold in the market at Tk 3,000 to 3,500, but this year these mangoes have been sold at the amount of 1,200-1,600 taka. A month ago, the general Fazli was 12 hundred and Surma Fazli Tk 16 hundred per maund.
    Now, there are also many varieties of mangoes in Rajshahi, including Harivangah, which came from different parts of the country.
    Now the mango production has exceeded target in Rajshahi. In 2017, the mango cultivation target was 17,420 hectares of land. It was cultivated in 17,463 hectares of land in the area.
    In 2017, the target of production of mangoes was 28,665 Metric tons. In 2018, the target of production of mangoes was 2,9,556 Metric tons.

    Mango traders said that people have eaten less because of the month of Ramadan in the full season of mangoes, farmers and traders have got very low prices because of the more supply of mango markets at the same time.

    The Department of Agricultural Extension of Rajshahi said that there is still a thousand metric ton of mango is to come to the market. According to them, in Rajshahi this time the production of mango has exceeded. Due to this, various varieties of mangoes have been sold at low prices.

    Although the season is almost over, the remaining mango is also abundant. In addition to this, some Amrapalis are available in the market at Tk 100 per kg.

    According to traders, Ashwina starts coming to the market but not enough. For the next one and a half months this mango will be sold in the market. Ashwina is now selling at the market at Tk 60-70.

    Ashwina mango is cultivated in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi district. Although not as tasty as other mango, delicious foods are made from the mango. This mango yield is also very good and selling Tk 15 to 32 hundred per maund in the market.
