Dr. Mohammad Abdul Majid, Former Secretary and Former Chairman of NBR: Widespread misunderstanding will be created if the reasons for asking for the political identity of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) are not explained. Those who have been appointed as UNOs, came through a process. Their identities have been verified by the police after passing the BCS exam. After all the clarifications, they have been appointed. After all these, seeking their political identity is not a matter of a great relief.
The UNOs are the employees of the republic, not the government. If the government starts to verify their identities out of nowhere, it is surely supposed to spread misconception. This is why they should inform why such an event is taking place. Or else, there will be misunderstanding between the government and the republic’s employees.
The verification process is done by the police. This is how it goes. The UNO, himself is a magistrate, a 1st class gazetted officer. His job is to certify others. Which is why, there should be proper explanation if the government feels to re-verify their identities.
