Dr. Anupam Sen, VC, Premier University & Sociologist : We all expect to get a drug-free society. Drug, in no way, can contribute prosperity to the society. Drug eventually takes the life of a man, ruining his family.
Both the drug-peddlers and the abusers forget that their activities can result destruction and destabilization in the society. If the youths in a society become addicted, how will it wind up the country in future? This is why the anti-drug drive is going on throughout the country in such a pace.
Like the rest of the world, anti-drug drives in our country are conducted following the law. But when the laws are implemented strongly, the big fishes in the drug scene respond insanely as well, triggering gunfights, only to lead to crossfires. Although I cannot guarantee the truthfulness about all the crossfires, but, to save the youths of our country, I don’t see any better alternatives than this.
According to an estimate, almost one crore people are directly or indirectly involved with drug-peddling. The state along with the law enforcers are bound to take stern actions in order to save the huge portion of our youths that are getting addicted.
