Sofian Khan: The G7 summit was wrapped up in acrimony, with Donald Trump lashing out at the host country Canada and retracting his endorsement of the joint statement.
Trump accused the Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada of acting “meek and mild” while meetings, only to attack the USĀ at a news conference.Mostly, the G7 was dominated by disagreements. Trudeau described as “insulting” Trump’s decision to invoke national security to justify tariffs.Differences over the recent import tariff on steel and aluminium seemed to have been papered over in a joint communique that advocated a “rules-based trading system”.”Canadians are polite and reasonable but we will also not be pushed around,” said the Canadian leader.
Trump on the way to his coming summit in Singapore, instructed his US officials “not to endorse the communique as we look at tariffs on automobiles”.
