Sabah Mannan: Just before the festive season marking Eid-ul-Fitr, a fire had started at the hawkers’ market in Gangina, a commercial hub in Mymensingh town at around 7am on Thursday, reports BDnews24.
To control the blaze, nine units of fire fighters from Mymensingh, Muktagachha and Trishal rushed to the spot. President of the hawkers’ association Abdul Hoque informed that as many as 138 stores of clothing, shoes, jewellery, cosmetics and tailoring were housed in the market.
Products of only four to five shops were saved by the people who were present at the scene. Other than these few shops, the rest have been burnt down pushing the owners of the outlets to near-bankruptcy.
