Sofian Khan: Finance Minister AMA Muhith will set the mega budget of some Tk 468,200 crore in Parliament for the fiscal year 18-19 on Thursday amid the fast approaching national election.
Muhith is about to set a rare example by placing the 10th consecutive budget of the current government.
This is going to be his 12th budget and also the last one of the current government in its second term.
While many are considering that the budget will be oriented toward the election, the Minister, however, trashed such observations during pre-budget discussions.
“All the preparations have been completed,” said a Finance Ministry official adding that preparing the Finance Minister’s budget speech is also at the final stage. Today, the budget speech will go to BG Press for printing.
According to finance Ministry officials, the revenue target will be fixed in such a way so that the budget deficit remains within 5 percent.
Before this, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal came up with a forecast that Bangladesh will be able to achieve 8% growth by the coming fiscal year.
