If you’re a Game of Thrones addict, then you know what I’m talking about. The fantasy series is not only famous for its complex plot and graphic content; it also holds the record for having some of the wittiest and wisest lines in the history of all TV series. Of course this list is entirely random and in no particular order, fully based on my preference.
1.”Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb. They refuse, they cling to the realm or the gods or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.”
-Petyr Baelish
This hits me deep in the feels EVERY SINGLE TIME. As Miley Cyrus sums up in her song: “It’s the cliiiimmbbb”, Littlefinger does a much better job of explaining. This quote is mainly a philosophical quote, yet it has a political undertone to it. This kind of thought process has fueled great revolutions from one generation to the other.
2.”Are you afraid? …You should be. You’re in the great game now, and the great game is TERRIFYING.”
-Tyrion Lannister
Anyone thinking of going into politics in the near future? Then repeat this quote to yourself a hundred times before being absolutely sure of your decision. They say that those who fear the competition are the ones who can best tackle it, for they are more careful than the others. Also, I love the dramatic effect this quote has.
3.”When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar; you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”
-Tyrion Lannister
Hear, hear! Tyrion Lannister knows how to keep it real. I feel that this quote is sending out an explicit message to politicians today, without actually pointing fingers at them directly. Well played, Mr. Martin.
4.”There’s only one hell. The one we live in now.”
-Melisandre
A dark quote for your average cynic, I love the dramatic effect of this one. Surely God couldn’t be as evil as bloodthirsty and power-hungry human beings. Is that what George Martin/ Melisandre is indicating? An interesting way to look at it that’s for sure.
