In today’s world, it is easy to be negative about everything easily but that does not help anyone. Moreover, being a pessimist only makes things worse than they are.
1. Admit to having your existing emotions. Optimism does not necessarily mean that one needs to be happy all the time. Trying to repress an emotion or feeling will bounce back at you. DO not avoid existing feelings. You do not have to make a big deal about it but try to accept the situation and eventually move on.
2. Get familiar with the idea of mindfulness. When going through the thought-process, try not to judge your feelings and do not label them as “right” or “wrong”.
3. Open your eyes to the positive things around you rather than focusing on the negative things. Positive thinking can increase your life span, reduce stress, improve your immune system, give rise to a positive health of your psychology and give you strength to cope with difficulties.
4. Learn to differentiate between blind optimism and true optimism. Blind optimism will lead you to believe that nothing bad can ever happen but true optimism is more realistic. It will teach you to believe that both good and bad things can happen. You have to hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. Life will have many turns.
5. Stop comparing yourself to others. There will always be people who have everything you want and are in better positions but there are also people who want what you have. Be thankful for everything you are gifted with and what you have earned.
6. Smile. Smile with reason and smile without any reason. It will not only lift up your mood but of people around you.
7. Pointing out the silver linings. Bad things will happen because life isn’t all fun and games. But to redeem yourself from a bad incident, you have to find the one good thing that came out of it. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
