The Cockney Accent

First the rise of Potterheads due to Harry Potter, and then people getting “Sherlocked” due to the successful TV series Sherlock Holmes- the desire to fake or to develop a British accent just doesn’t stop boiling. Although we all love and adore a sexy British accent but when it’s fake and overused, it does tend to get on the nerves.
So what term do we use to describe this messed up mutation of an accent? We use “Cockney” (not to be confused with “cocky”)!
Now, how do you do a cockney accent? Simply, bring your lips far forward for the oral posture, make sure that there’s a lot of space in the back of your mouth, and that the front of your mouth is closed. Bring your lip corners forward, as you enunciate. In proper cockney dialect, the ‘E’ turns into an ‘eh’, and “th” turns into an “f”.
