Scientists found evidence of another mass extinction in Western Australia. Where a gigantic asteroid that crashed into Earth billions of years ago. Prior to the very known terrifying collision66 million years ago, this one was even more devastating that killed the dinosaurs as published in Precambrian Research. They believe this colossal asteroid smashed into Earth more than 3 billion years ago. Big chance it totally altered the evolution of life to a different direction. This is assumed to be the second oldest asteroid that hit Earth. Their calculations tell the asteroid was 20 to 30 kilometers across. It impact could have extended for hundreds of kilometers and the discovered crater was part of it. They found certain kind of glass beads called spherules. Earth and Paleoclimate Scientist Andrew Glikson of the researching team from the Australian National University’s Planetary Institute says, “Material from the impact would have spread worldwide. These spherules were found in sea floor sediments that date from 3.46 billion years ago.” Though the infamous dinosaur-killing impact crater at the Gulf of Mexico –measures about 180 km in diameter. Still this newly discovered collision left even bigger dent on Earth. After all, Western Australia was not the ground zerofor the collision. Glikson said, “Exactly where this asteroid struck the earth remains a mystery. Any craters from this time on Earth’s surface have been obliterated by volcanic activity and tectonic movements. The impact would have triggered earthquakes orders of magnitude greater than terrestrial earthquakes. Would have caused huge tsunamis and would have made cliffs crumble.” The asteroid brought vast resource of platinum, nickel, chromium and majorly spherules. Its resulting effects must have echoed through the planet’s developmentfor a very long time.
