Amber Heard has refuted claims by comedian Doug Stanhope that she is manipulating and threatening to blackmail Johnny Depp.Heard filed for divorce from Depp last week, alleging that he had been abusive throughout their marriage. But Stanhope defended the actor, claiming Heard had told Depp she was going to leave him and threatened to lie about him publicly.
“He opened up in the most vulnerable of ways,” wrote Stanhope in The Wrap. “That Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every duplicitous way if he didn’t agree to her terms. Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified.”
Now Heard has issued a statement through her lawyer Peter Sample, hitting back at Stanhope. Mr Sample said: “The allegations against Ms Heard are absolutely and unequivocally false.” The statement also said that the claim of blackmail “has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit.” Earlier this week, a Los Angeles court awarded Heard a domestic violence restraining order against Depp. Court documents filed by Heard’s lawyers claim that the actor “violently attacked” the American actress in their penthouse apartment.
