A R Rahman has won Japan’s Fukuoka Prize to add to his numerous collections of awards and honors. He won the award on Monday this week for his marvelous contribution to the Asian music, according to a report published in ANI.
This prestigious award was won previously by prominenet musicians like sitarist Ravi Shankar, dancer Padma Subrahmanyam, historian Romila Thapar and Ramachandra Guha and sarod player Amjad Ali Khan.
The Fukuoka Prize was introduced by Yokatopia Foundation in Fukuoka city.
The award is presented to the ones who preserve the Asian culture and heritage.
The award holds three categories: Grand Prize, Academic Prize and Arts and Culture Prize.
Other than Rahman, Ameth R Ocampo, Philippines’ historian won an Academic Prize and Yasmeen Lari from Pakistan won an Arts and Culture Prize by the Fukuoka committee.
A. R. Rahman is popular for his magnificent music in films like Dil Se, Roja, Swades, Taal and others.
Rahman, 49, has also won two Oscars and one Golden Globe for his precious talent portrayed in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire.
A R Rahman’s honors also include four National Awards and several Filmfare trophies.
