While we congratulate our friends for turning legal on their 18th birthday, the Japanese kids have to wait another 2 long years before they earn the right to vote. And how do they celebrate their special 20th birthday? With debauchery of course!
20 used to be the age when the Japanese kids stepped into manhood/womanhood and earned the right to vote, but the minimum voting age has now been decreased to 18.
Japan has the reputation to be quirky and cute (Pikachu as the national mascot! Need I say more?) and so they put together a fancy PSA to let the kids know of their new voting rights.
The ad shows a starfish-like mascot called Tokyo-to-kun sings something that roughly translates to “you can finally vote now because you’re 18!”while some seriously trippy image manipulation goes on in the background.
