Myisha Nawar & Nusrat Progga
After a marvelous shopping spree at Paris (we wear Prada or nada) and a weekend of partying in the Bahamas, The Daily Our Time’s most fabulous reporters- Myishakalakaboomboom and Proggastination, came back to their homeland in search of some fine coffee. After some terrible experiences at over-hyped coffee-shops like Gloria Jean’s, they ended up at a magical land of caffeine and whipped cream called CRIMSON CUP BD *insert heavenly background music*.
Okay, we might have exaggerated about our luxurious adventures a bit, because reporters are usually dirt-poor, but we are not kidding about Crimson Cup BD though!
Crimson Cup BD started its journey at Banani last year, and then opened up its second branch here in Dhanmondi. They offer a wide array of coffees and flavored tea, delicious freshly baked desserts, and some simple but healthy snacks.
The price of their coffee usually ranges from Tk. 300-400, and the tea costs about Tk.250 if you want the large one. It might sound a little expensive to a lot of people, but trust us when we tell you that it is totally worth the empty pocket in the end. We have gone there once, and now we are damaged beyond repair: imagine junkies, just addicted to frozen lattes from Crimson Cup instead of Cannabis.
Almost everything from the café tastes pretty good, but their standouts are the frozen coffees or as they call it- “freezy” and of course, their mouth-watering blueberry cheesecakes. However, we would also like to give an honorary shout-out to their red-velvet cupcakes too!
Now let us move on to their interior. As soon as you walk in, you are welcomed by the aroma of caffeine and the sizzle and slosh of coffee machines. Crimson Cup is the coziest little nook, with the perfect ambiance, where you can sit back on a comfy coffee colored couch and chill with friends. They have a designated smoking zone too.
However, the best part about the place is its hospitable employees, who are mostly students. Below are some responses we got from the employees when we asked them about their job at Crimson Cup:
“One word. Love.” –Abrar
“I absolutely love my job because I love coffee and serving freshly ground coffee to other coffee lovers is a pleasure. I think more students should work here for the experience and to be independent. This is not an odd job, this is just like any other job and it really teaches how to communicate with different types of people.”- Mishma
“I love working at Crimson Cup. When I work here, I forget about the pressures of the world. I feel free. We have a lot of fun during our shifts. Every single guest visiting us is precious and amazing. It doesn’t feel like a work place, it feels like a hangout place for us as well where we meet new friends everyday.” –Ratul
“Crimson cup is my second home. It is my oxygen! I feel like the happiest person in the world when I am on duty here.” -Zubo
